Lakeside Little Theatre is Mexico's oldest English language theatre, in operation since 1965. We are a self-sustaining, not-for-profit organization offering theatre arts to Lakeside residents at our own 122-seat facility in San Antonio Tlayacapan. We are a membership-based community theatre, and our officers, staff, directors, cast and crew are unpaid volunteers. We welcome all who wish to participate. Thanks to generous donations during LLT's recent THIRD ACT capital campaign, we completed major renovations to our premises in 2019, improving the theatre experience for our patrons and volunteers. “We look forward to welcoming those who supported the Chapala Opera Guild for many years to their new home at Lakeside Little Theatre, ” said LLT President Brian Mattes.
“We are very excited to work with LLT so that our opera patrons will have a new and beautiful place to see next season’s exciting line-up of opera performances from the Met, ” said Howard Willis, President of the Chapala Opera Guild. “I also want to thank all our patrons, members and sponsors for their loyalty and generosity and hope they will continue to support the Theatre and Guild. ”
LLT is a recently renovated theatre with comfortable seats and high-quality sound and video systems. Nonetheless, in preparation for the arrival of the opera season, LLT has been busy bringing further improvements to the setting. “We have just made substantial investments in our video technology, ” said Mattes. “We have purchased a much larger, higher quality electric screen to replace our aging manual screen along with a much more powerful 7000w laser projector. The result will be a larger, sharper and brighter image, one deserving of a Met Opera performance. ”
The full 9-opera Met season will be shown at LLT beginning on October 30 with “Dead Man Walking. ” LLT is holding ticket prices the same as they were previously when the operas were presented at MovieSpace - 2500 pesos for the full season and 330 pesos per individual show.
“We will offer opera patrons an important new benefit - the ability to buy tickets online via LLT’s state-of-the-art online ticketing system, ” said Mattes. “And while previously the operas were presented at noon on Saturdays we will deliver them on multiple days, generally Sunday and Monday at 4 pm although several of the most popular operas will be shown over 3 days. We had to work hard to fit the opera schedule into our busy Main Stage schedule for next season, but miraculously it all came together. ”
